ReTree Irondequoit
Our goal is to turn portions of standard grass yards into green spaces that support the local ecosystem while also providing shade, beauty, and maybe even food for human residents. This project is powered by volunteers from Color Irondequoit Green, and is a sister project to ReTree Webster.
What ReTree Does
We give away native trees and other flora to be planted on public and private spaces in Irondequoit, NY. The trees and plants are very young, typically less than 2 feet in height. This keeps costs and labor manageable for a completely volunteer run group! I have to be able to fit the plants in my Honda! The good thing is, trees grow!
How it works:
-
ReTree works with property owners to agree upon an appropriate space, trees/flora, other supplies, and time frame for planting.
-
ReTree delivers trees/flora at the scheduled time.
-
ReTree volunteers can do the digging and planting, if agreed upon. We always do so for public spaces, and at private home owners request. We are also happy to just deliver the plants.
-
ReTree provides care instruction/education on the type of trees or other plants.
-
Public spaces only: ReTree Tree Guardians will monitor and water the trees until they are established.
