Did you know that New York State has a goal of reducing fossil fuel emissions 40% by 2030? It's a checkpoint to our ultimate goal, an 80+% reduction by 2050, which is the same goal that Monroe County has adopted.
We're focused on how our community can reach "40 by 30," so that we can have a clean, healthy, and sustainable future.

Created in the Spring of 2024 as a project of CIG's sister group, Color Fairport Green, 40 x 30 initially aimed to help Fairport reduce fossil fuel emissions 40% by 2030. CIG now has its own 40 x 30 initiative, drawing on the work in Fairport, aimed at helping Irondequoit achieve GHG emissions reductions.
The 40 x 30 goal, along with an additional target of an 85% reduction by 2050 (or "85x50"), was defined in the NYS Climate Act (CLCPA) of 2019.
These are challenging goals to reach! But they are not impossible, with coordinated planning and action from ordinary citizens like ourselves, and our community leaders. If you'd like to get involved, please email coloritowngreen@gmail.com.
